BANGKOK, July 2015,  A bike route will be built in commemoration of His Majesty the King’s 88th birthday anniversary, which falls on December 5th, 2015, says the Minister of Transport.

According to the Transport Minister, Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, the project is a joint effort of the Department of Highways, the Department of Rural Roads, and the Local Administrative Organization. The 182-kilometer-long bike route would start from Thammasat University’s Sports Complex in Pathum Thani Province to Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province

The Minister said the route would promote bicycle use in everyday life, adding it would also attract tourists to the 5 provinces it passes through, which are Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri and Chai Nat.

The route would be separated from the main road to ensure maximum safety for all cycling buffs. A minor rest area will also be built every 5 – 10 kilometers, with a larger one constructed every 15 – 20 kilometers. The project is expected to be completed in 2018.
