Operation Complete: Blind gaur safely captured and relocated to ensure the safety of villagers and the animal’s well-being.

PRACHINBURI, Thailand – The operation to capture a blind gaur has concluded successfully after the animal caused damage to homes in Nadi District, January 11. Officials are preparing to care for the gaur in a safe area.

The operation was carried out by officers from Thap Lan National Park and a veterinary team. The gaur, a blind adult male, had wandered out of the forest in Thap Lan National Park into a village in Moo 9, Kaeng Dinso Subdistrict, Nadi District, Prachinburi, on January 6. It damaged a house and threatened officers during the incident.

Prawattisart Janthep, head of Thap Lan National Park, visited the affected homeowner to offer support and coordinated with the Office of Conservation Area 1 (Prachinburi) to request veterinary assistance. The team successfully tranquilized the gaur in a eucalyptus plantation before relocating it.

According to Yosawat Thiansawat, Director of the Office of Conservation Area 1, the blind gaur, despite its full physical maturity and strength, has completely lost sight in both eyes. The veterinary team will conduct a thorough health check and construct a standard enclosure for the animal. Initially, the gaur will be housed temporarily at Khao Yai National Park’s Protection Unit 2. Once it recovers and regains strength, it will be relocated back to Thap Lan National Park for permanent care. (TNA)
