BANGKOK, 19 July 2011 – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched the Anti-Dengue Fever Week, in which officials are sent out to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and publicize preventive measures against dengue fever.
Deputy Bangkok Governor MD Malinee Sukavejworakit presided over the opening ceremony of the Anti-Dengue Fever Week campaign as well as the release of a caravan for educating the public on dengue fever and preventive methods against the disease. Due to the continual rain at present which is conducive to mosquito reproduction, she stressed the necessity for the BMA to promptly and stringently protect the people from being infected with dengue fever and to keep the outbreak under control in a bid to minimize the death toll.
The Deputy Governor also requested cooperation from the public in eradicating mosquito spawning pools within their homes and communities as part of the effort to keep dengue fever at bay. Moreover, anyone experiencing high body temperatures for longer than one day is encouraged to seek medical attention immediately.
Any suspected dengue fever infections should also be reported to local public health centers, district offices or the BMA Hotline 1555 in order for related officials to be dispatched to the site to exterminate mosquitoes and intercept a possible outbreak.
