Bangkok – The Department of Public Works of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has started laying the groundwork for the landscape improvement of Mahakan Fort, following the recent relocation of the dwellers previously found invading public spaces.
Currently, only five buildings remain to be removed after the BMA enforced the law to reclaim public spaces. The office will spend a month reorganizing the area for public use.
Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkapan Piewngam said the Department of Public Works on Monday started turning the area into a temporary public park. The process is expected to take four to six days, before the land is ready for planting and light installation. The entire operation is expected to complete by the end of next month.
He noted that the funding for the reorganization of Mahakan Fort came from residents and independent organizations, stressing that the BMA did not get involved in budgeting.
Vehicles are still allowed to use the roads around the area during the activity. However, motorists traveling at night are advised to use alternative routes until the installation of lamp posts in the area is completed.
