BANGKOK, 14 May 2015  – The Board of Investment sets to approve 1.6 trillion baht worth of investment projects this year, an increase of 128 percent from last year.

Revealing the target, BOI Acting Secretary-General Hiranya Sujinai said that in 2014 the board had approved investment projects with only 700 billion baht in combined capital.

She indicated during the first 4 months of this year, the BOI already granted promotional privileges to projects worth 300 billion baht in investment. The majority of these projects involve power plants using alternative energy, naval and aerial transportations.

Ms. Hiranya said that out of the proposed 700 billion baht investment projects approved last year, new factories worth no less than 500 billion baht would be actually established this year.

These projects are mostly small and medium sized and are ready for implementation as soon as they receive BOI approvals. The investments would create jobs, generate income to the nation and stimulate the local economy, she explained.
