BANGKOK, Dec 13 – The Botanic Festival 2020 will be organized at Queen Sirikit Botanic garden in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district from Dec 27 – Jan 5.
Kesineekan Ekkittithanapoom, spokeswoman of the Botanical Garden Organization (BGO) said the festival is aimed to raise awareness among people especially children to see the value of Thai floras and get involved with sustainable plant conservation.
She said this year’s highlight is the Botany Studio, an inspirational room for those would like to be a botanist with many relevant activities.
A laboratory mock-up will give young people experience in doing jobs as a real botanist. Demonstrations of plant tissue culture techniques will be held and insect samples and varieties of cactus will be put on display.
Other activities are making dried plant cards, selling organic vegetable and music in the garden,
A 500- metre canopy walk, 20 meters high from the ground will give visitors access to stunning views wild plants and a waterfall.
About 500,000 visitors are expected throughout the New Year festival.
The BGO also promotes green tourism to ban plastic and styrofoam containers. Alternatives materials made from plants will be showcased at the event.
