A group of budding fashionistas have unveiled dress collections made of Thai textile in popular reality television show “Tor Fah Pha Thai,” or “Thai Fabric Weaving the Dream” to represent both modern fashion and traditional Thai clothes—using Thai textiles—to keep “modern legacy” alive.
In an effort to boost the presence of Thai textiles in modern Thai fashion, the finale episode of “Tor Fah Pha Thai” or “Thai Fabric Weaving the Dream – Reality Show” asked its final three competing designers to embody its concept of “modern legacy.”
The three designers—who triumphed to the final round of the competition, beating over 1,000 applicants—were asked to showcase their design skills while also presenting Thai fabrics in ways that are both presentable and wearable to the Thai public.
The winner, 25-year old Adirek Kamnoi created his final clothing line inspired by traditional Thai architecture. He went for a good mix between bright colours and glistening ornaments to represent traditional Thai architectures which shine in the tropical sun. Adirek hopes that his clothing line would help encourage a sense of authentic Thai culture in modern fashion.
Despite the widespread growth of Western styles in the Thai fashion world, Head Officer of Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles Mrs. Piyavara Teekara Natenoi emphasized the importance of keeping these classical Thai textiles trendy.
A consultant to the show, she spoke of the need for fashion designers to use various Thai textiles in hip ways to keep the fabric and promote its uniqueness characteristics in modern fashion.
“I think it represent the Thai identity. The new generation of Thai people should keep such identity of Thailand and also make it more available for people in the city”, said Piyavara.
This marks the end of “Tor Fah Pha Thai’s” second year on the air.
