Department Director Wanaporn Jemjamrat said changes to the traditional Thai diet to include sweet and greasy foods is to blame for the increased incidence of diabetes. People also are eating fewer fruits and vegetables, she said.
Weight is also a factor, with people not exercising and instead smoking and drinking too much.
