BURIRAM, Thailand – Monporn Charoensri, Deputy Minister of Transport, confirmed on October 22 that Buriram Airport is fully prepared to accommodate the influx of visitors for the “MotoGP Thailand 2024.” The international motorcycle racing event will take place from October 25-27, at Chang International Circuit in Buriram Province. The airport expects to handle 110 flights and welcome approximately 17,400 passengers during this period, generating over 100 million baht in revenue for Thailand.
Minister Monporn emphasized the airport’s readiness to facilitate both the participants and tourists attending the event. She has instructed various transportation agencies under the Ministry of Transport to collaborate closely to ensure seamless and efficient transportation services under the “Transport for Thailand’s Opportunities” policy. Buriram Airport is coordinating with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI) to manage the additional flights, including scheduled services and charter flights.
Between October 21-28, Buriram Airport will handle 110 flights: 68 regular flights, 12 additional flights, and 30 charter flights. Airlines servicing the event include Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Siam Land, Flex Box LTD, and Batik Air. The influx of both domestic and international visitors is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy, benefiting not only Buriram but also nearby provinces.
Dhanai Ruangsorn, Director-General of the Department of Airports (DOA), stated that Buriram Airport has upgraded its facilities to international standards. The airport can now accommodate 400 passengers per hour at the terminal and 450 passengers per hour in the departure hall. The boarding area has been expanded to include three boarding gates, along with a new VIP lounge for 180 passengers per hour. Additional mobile restrooms, food and beverage vendors, ATMs, foreign exchange counters, baggage trolleys, and parking for 200 vehicles have also been added to improve the visitor experience.
In collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, immigration, customs, and local police, Buriram Airport will ensure smooth operations and provide special cultural performances, including traditional Isaan music and dance, to offer tourists a glimpse of the region’s rich heritage. The event is seen as a major opportunity to promote tourism and boost the local economy.
Buriram Airport has passed all safety inspections and received its public airport certification. Staff members are trained to provide friendly and welcoming service, enhancing Buriram’s reputation as a key cultural and historical destination.
