BURIRAM, 14 November 2013All 47 schools along the Thai-Cambodian border in Buriram have been told to resume classes, after the World Court yielded its verdict on the Thai-Cambodian territorial dispute.
According to the office for basic education area 2 in Buriram, teachers, parents and students have been relieved of their anxiousness following the world court ruling. Classes were suspended on Monday and Tuesday out of concerns about the aftermath of the ICJ verdict reading.
Thai and Cambodian troops remain stationed near the Phra Viharn world heritage site, which has been off-limits to visitors since November 4.
In Saothongchai sub-district, Sisaket province, locals went about their lives as usual, confident there would be no recurrence of border violence. Almost all of those who moved to temporary shelters during the International Court of Justice’s verdict reading have returned to their homes.
At the Chong Chom border point in Surin, a higher number of Cambodian merchants were seen purchasing goods from the border market. Most of the merchants said they believed the ICJ’s verdict would not bring about violence between the two countries.
