TAK, Thailand – A passenger bus traveling from Bangkok to Chiang Mai swerved uncontrollably before veering off the road and crashing into a large tree, resulting in two fatalities and over 30 injuries. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Phahonyothin Road, kilometers 506-507, in Wang Chao district, Tak province.
Emergency responders, including police from Wang Chao Police Station and rescue teams, rushed to the scene, where they found the bus with passengers, including foreign tourists, lying in the median and crashed into the tree. Among the injured, two individuals were confirmed dead.
One of the fatalities, Ms. Erawan, 41, a bus attendant, died at the scene, seated next to the driver. Rescuers used hydraulic tools to extricate her body. The driver, Suwat, 65, was trapped in the front of the vehicle, pinned by the impact of the crash. It took over 20 minutes to free him, but despite being in shock, unconscious, and with no pulse, he was resuscitated with CPR before being rushed to the hospital. Sadly, he passed away shortly afterward.
Witnesses reported seeing the bus traveling at high speed through Tak before swerving violently and crashing into the tree as it approached Wang Chao. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
