BANGKOK, 10 July 2012 – The Cabinet has approved the proposal by the Ministry of Education to host the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in 2015 while also agreeing to improve the public health system along the border of Thailand.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Anusorn Iamsa-ard said that the Cabinet has given a nod to the Education Ministry’s proposal for Thailand to host the 56th IMO in 2015. The academic competitions include the following subjects: mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and computer.
The hosting of this event is also aimed to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on the occasion of her 60th birthday anniversary on April 2, 2015, and to promote Thailand’s academic achievements to the world community.
According to the Deputy Spokesman, the IMO will require a budget of more than 82 million baht, which will be allotted from the national budget from the fiscal years 2013 to 2016.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved a healthcare improvement plan, which was proposed by the Public Health Ministry in order to raise the standard of basic healthcare for Thai people living in 33 provinces bordering Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.
The scheme has four main goals, which are improving healthcare services, increasing people’s access to basic healthcare, gathering cooperation from all related sectors and establishing a better management system.
