BANGKOK, Thailand – The Cabinet has approved a 304.8 million baht budget for flood rehabilitation projects in Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani following severe floods in late 2024. According to Government Spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap, the decision was made during the Mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province on Feb 18. The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) proposed the projects after conducting assessments with the National Security Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Interior.
The floods in November and December caused extensive damage to homes, agricultural land, and public infrastructure. To support recovery efforts, funding will come from the 2025 central budget under emergency and contingency funds. The approved projects include 100 million baht for a flood barrier along the Pattani River in Yala, 100.32 million baht for 14 infrastructure repairs in Narathiwat, and 104.47 million baht for seven projects in Pattani.
The rehabilitation work is expected to restore damaged infrastructure and strengthen resilience against future floods. Communities affected by the disaster will benefit from repairs to essential services and transportation networks. These efforts will ensure key infrastructure operates efficiently and minimize the impact of future weather-related disruptions.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra directed relevant ministries to develop long-term water management and flood mitigation measures. She stressed the need to move beyond short-term crisis responses toward a more comprehensive approach that addresses flooding and drought conditions.
The government will coordinate with provincial authorities to ensure the timely completion of the rehabilitation projects. Efforts will also focus on strengthening disaster preparedness, improving drainage systems, and enhancing water management to reduce risks in flood-prone areas.
