BANGKOK, 15 October 2013 The cabinet has approved the construction of a green line skytrain extended route, which is estimated to cost 26.5 billion baht.

The Green Line, running from Mo Chit to Khu Khot, will be constructed as part of the northern expansion plan. Bangkok’s existing Green Line, also known as the Sukhumvit Line, is an elevated rail line from Mo Chit to Bearing. The Green Line will be extended from Bearing to Samutprakarn in the southern expansion, while the northern plan will include the extension of the line from Mo Chit to Khu Khot, via Saphan Mai.

The Bearing-Samutprakarn section of the MRT Green Line project is in advanced stage of development. Its construction is expected to start in 2014. The extended line is scheduled to open for service in 2017.

The Cabinet approved the development of mass rapid transit systems in Bangkok in November 2006, which also included the extension of the existing Green Line. During the weekly meeting, the cabinet also agreed to adjourn the general ordinary Parliament session, which convokes from August 1 to November 29.
