BANGKOK, 1 September 2015 – The Cabinet has agreed to a proposal to provide national artists with additional healthcare benefits, with a retroactive effect to 2012.
Following the Cabinet meeting, Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat revealed that approval was granted to the proposed amendment of the ministerial regulation concerning qualifications and benefit entitlement of national artists. The amendment is intended to give national artists an equal subsidy for medical expenses to that of civil servants.
The revised ministerial regulation stipulates that, if a national artist is already eligible to receive a medical subsidy from any agency, he or she must request the subsidy from that agency first. If the initial amount does not cover the entire medical cost, the Office of Cultural Promotion under the Culture Ministry will provide him or her with an additional amount up to a limit of 100,000 baht.
The new regulation is set to take effect from May 30th, 2012. The Cabinet will now forward it to the Office of the Council of State for review and implementation accordingly.
