BANGKOK, 27 February 2013 The Cabinet has resolved to impose sanctions on North Korea following a resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Deputy Government Spokesman Chalitrat Chantharubeksa said the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday agreed on sanctions against North Korea after the country’s launch of a long-range rocket on 12 December last year. On this occasion, the Cabinet also approved a revised name list of people who are banned from traveling outside the Kingdom and whose assets are subject to seizure.
Speaking about Thailand’s sanctions on North Korea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that Thailand, as a member of the United Nations, must comply with the UN Charter. The decision to impose sanctions against North Korea in compliance with the UNSC resolution is not within the framework of Section 190 of the Constitution, which requires approval from the parliament.
