Cabinet to consider Chao Phraya riverbank development project next week

BANGKOK, 6 May 2015 –The committee of the project to develop Chao Phraya riverbanks, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, on Wednesday approved details of the 14-billion-baht project. The project’s procurement contract will be signed in December 2015 and the construction will likely take place from January 2016 – July 2017.

The committee will submit the project to the Cabinet meeting next week for approval, said the committee’s secretary-general, who is also permanent secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.

The committee is surveying the places and people who will be affected by the project, including eight Buddhist temples, 36 piers, six schools and restaurants, 19 important places and 268 households. Public hearings and Environmental Impact Assessment will be arranged.
