BANGKOK, 17 April 2014 – The Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) has issued a statement on its requests and urged all sides to resolve the political conflicts together.
Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) Tharit Pengdit on Thursday said the CAPO was deeply concerned about the ongoing political standoff, thereby making seven requests as follows.
1. The CAPO calls on the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to treat Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the rice subsidy case fairly, without discrimination and in line with the laws.
2. The Constitution Court should consider and rule on the case of the transfer of National Security Council chief Thawin Pleansri fairly. Its verdict should not exceed what the charter allows.
3. The Cabinet should ensure that there will be no political vacuum.
4. The Election Commission should speedily organize a new general election so that there is a new government to run the country.
5. Both pro- and anti-government protest groups should call off their demonstrations to avoid confrontation and violence.
6. High-ranking government officials should perform their duties with caution, provide normal service to the general public and avoid taking part in any activities in support of the protest groups who breach the laws.
7. The CAPO calls on the people not to join in protests by any groups in order to avoid dangers caused by confrontation.
