The Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) plans to reopen government offices as normal today (Feb 3, 2014), starting with the Ministry of Justice.
According to Mr. Tharit Pengdit, Director-General of Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Centre of Maintaining Peace and Order (CAPO) committee member, said yesterday that the CAPO planned to reopen government offices tomorrow to allow officials to return to work as normal. The Ministry of Justice, department of Consular Affair and government offices located on Chaeng Wattana Rd., except the DSI, would resume their services on Feb.3( today). The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and ten other offices located inside Kasetsart University’s compound, including the Ministries of Commerce, Natural Resources and Environment, Finance, as well as the Public Relations Department will be re-opened on February 4, 2014. All government offices are expected to reopen by next week, except in key protest sites, which might take a bit more time.
Tharit said he did not think the protesters would cause further violence even though the result of peace talks is still unclear. However, rapid deployment teams will be on standby for any emergency that might occur.
Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, an election committee on election administration, will participate in the CAPO meeting held tomorrow at 1pm.
