BANGKOK, 17 July 2015, The Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) has extended the operating period of the mobile fishing vessel registration units to the end of this month.
Admiral Kraison Chansuwanit made the announcement during the CCCIF’s meeting yesterday. The mobile registration campaign is a joint effort among the Marine Department, the Fisheries Department and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.
The meeting has resolved to ban the use of push nets, net traps, lighted fishing nets and stow nets by all types of fishing boats. Fishing perimeters for local and commercial fishing operations have also been established. The specifics of the fisheries regulations, policies and discussion on related topics will be included in the next meeting, Admiral Kraison said.
