BANGKOK, 15 July 2015 – The Constitution Drafting Committee has reached an initial agreement to make changes to the process of impeachment of politicians, under the new charter.
The CDC meeting has agreed in principle to make the changes and has already started the drafting of new wording which will be applied to the section related to the impeachment of political office holders.
It is reported that the CDC will deal with the situation based on the type of wrongdoing.
For a prime minister, members of the cabinet, members of parliament and senators, the case will be submitted to the Parliament for consideration and a guilty verdict would mean the issue would be passed on to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for further work, before the result is sent back for an impeachment vote.
But if the wrongdoing involves any ethical code, the case will be presented to an investigative committee which will be comprised of noted individuals from all organisations set up by the Constitution, before the case is sent back to the Parliament to be voted on.
