BANGKOK, 19 June 2015 – The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee has again rejected claims that the new charter is being drafted in accordance with a blueprint.

CDC Chairman Borwornsak Uwanno said on Thursday that the charter drafters are currently reviewing all proposals on changes to the draft of the new Constitution, presented by all related parties and bodies.

Those who have made such proposals include the Cabinet, the National Reform Council, political parties, independent organizations and various civic groups.

Mr. Borwornsak conceded that the draft charter is not what he has been dreaming of because, if it is, the new Constitution will absolutely have to truly empower the people, clean politics, promote social justice and help bring peace back to Thailand.

He added that, if the new charter is being drafted according to a blueprint, there will not be so many changes to be made to it.

The CDC Chairman added that the charter drafters are likely going to change the numbers of members of parliament under the new Constitution to be 450, including 150 party-list MPs and 300 constituency MPs.
