CHAINAT, 11 March 2015 -The central province of Chainat has issued a warning to local residents on the effects of the receding water level of the Chao Phraya river during this dry season.
According to Deputy Governor Pannee Ngamkham, Bhumibol, Sirikit and Kwae Noi Bamrungdan dams reportedly contain inadequate amount of water to feed off-season crops until the end of April.
Those dams should contain enough water to maintain the ecology system. The province will, therefore, reduce the amount of watered released from those dams from now on, which in turn will affect off-season rice farming.
Meanwhile, residents living along the banks of the Chao Phaya river have been warned that the river banks might collapse. The deputy governor has also asked local residents to conserve water to prevent severe water shortages before the arrival of the rainy season in mid May.
