BANGKOK, 26 December 2013 – Former Supreme Commander Chaisit Shinawatra revealed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra had called him and discussed having those in the Shinawatra family keep a low profile during the current period.
On Wednesday, General Chaisit expressed admiration for the stances displayed by the armed forces commanders over the current political situation, and for heeding the mechanisms of the government. He noted, however, that he would have liked the Army chief to have engaged more with the leaders of the protest. He added that the political situation for the upcoming year was difficult to forecast.
General Chaisit also disclosed that Pol. Lt. Col. Thaksin had telephoned him to talk about the political issues, and to ask for people in the Shinawatra family to keep a low political profile for now to avoid conflicts with protesters. Gen. Chaisit added he would like to ask that the demonstrators not go so far as to demand that Yingluck Shinawatra leave the country, saying such demand was unreasonable.
