CHANTHABURI, 12 July 2012  – The Chanthaburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has warned residents in the province to brace for flashfloods and forest runoffs in the next couple of days.

Chief of the Chanthaburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office Chumpot Wannachatsiri said that a monsoon trough covering the North and the Northeast of Thailand, coupled with the southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, will bring about more scattered thundershowers and heavy rains in the East and the South.

Residents living near hillsides and waterways are advised to monitor weather updates and to be on a lookout for possible flashfloods and forest runoffs over the next two days.

Relevant agencies are instructed to be well-equipped for unexpected incidents and to assign rescue teams to be on 24-hour standby. Levees and dams are to be fortified in preparation for possible flooding.

Affected residents in Chanthaburi can contact the provincial disaster prevention office at telephone number 0–3931-2100 for assistance.
