CHIANG MAI – The northern province of Chiang Mai is bracing for the next dry season as more water pumping machines are now being installed.
The Chiang Mai Irrigation Department is installing two giant water pumping machines at Mae Yuak back-up reservoir in Muang District in an attempt to prepare for the upcoming drought season. The two pumping machines are expected to increase the capacity of the province’s irrigation system.
Mae Yuak reservoir now stores water up to 90 percent of its total capacity and is the only back-up reservoir in the central Chiang Mai.
Meanwhile in Sisaket Province, local authorities are handing out fresh water to residents in Prang Ku District following a 3-day water shortage. Fresh water will also be distributed to other drought-affected areas.
