BANGKOK, 19 May 2014 – Chiang Mai Night Safari has added to its animal collection four adorable baby emus.
Chiang Mai Night Safari gave a press conference, introducing four baby emus which were naturally bred. According to the zoo, it took 56 days for the father emu to incubate the eggs before the four babies hatched.
The zoo’s veterinarians have been giving intensive care to the newborn babies since the hatching. The chicks are reportedly strong and healthy.
Chiang Mai Night Safari now has a total of 16 emus in its collection, 4 male, and 8 female, while the sexes of the four babies are still unidentified.
Emus are the second largest birds in Australia, after the ostrich. With the height of 1.5 meters, an emu can weigh up to 50 kilograms. Emus have soft feathers, long necks, and long legs. Although they cannot fly, they can sprint as fast as 50 kilometers per hour.
