Chiang Rai draws the curtains on 12th Mekong Goodwill Games

CHIANG RAI – The 12nd Mekong Goodwill Games Chiang Rai 2016 have concluded, giving participants new friendships and a memorable experience.

The closing ceremony took place at Chiang Rai Grandroom Hotel in Muang District, with vice-governor Prachon Pratsakul presiding over the ceremony. Over 500 Thai and foreign athletes and staff from Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and China took part in the event.

The Mekong Goodwill Games began in 2012, with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports as the main organizer. Chiang Rai was chosen as this year’s host thanks to its readiness and suitable location.

The objectives are to foster friendships between Thailand and nearby countries and promote cooperation in the areas of sports, tourism and culture. The 12th Mekong Goodwill Games Chiang Rai 2016 was held between 21st and 25th March at Chiang Rai Central Stadium.
