Chief of Thai Defense Forces hails success in visiting India

BANGKOK, July 1 – The Chief of Thailand’s Defense Forces and Deputy Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), Gen Thanasak Patimapragorn expressed satisfaction with his official visit to India, affirming progress on bilateral relations and India’s excitement in participating in next year’s Cobra Gold 2015 exercise.

Gen Thanasak officially visited India June 28-30 as a guest of the state, during which he met with his Indian counterpart, and Army Chief Gen Blkram Singh for talks on bilateral military relations and progress on joint exercises, particularly the Cobra Gold 2015 exercise.

The Thai Defense Forces Chief also met with India’s Minister of Finance and Defense, Shri Arun Jaitley for talks on mutual interest and cooperation.

Gen Thanasak said India has shown great understanding regarding the current Thai political situation, saying that India would give Thailand full support to help bring back peace and stability to the Thai kingdom.

Besides, the NCPO deputy chief said relations on trade, investments, and tourism would remain strong as before, adding that he has held talks with the Indian side on building a route linking India with Thailand through Myanmar, which should be finalised within 2016.
