China offers to help manage Mekong River to alleviate drought

Bangkok – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China is ready to help Thailand overcome its current drought problems and has already released more water into the upper Mekong River to alleviate the dry conditions.

Yi said a problem for Thailand was also a problem of the Chinese people and authorities in Beijing have authorized the release of more water into the Lan Chang River, which becomes the Mekong River further downstream. Chinese farmers and communities along the river have also been affected by the lack of rainfall this year.
