China to send new panda pair to Thailand

The new pandas, set to arrive in 2025, will serve as goodwill ambassadors and are expected to be a major draw for visitors to Thai zoos.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand is set to welcome a new pair of giant pandas as a gift from China to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Oct 30.

The announcement was made by Jatuphon Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The new pandas, set to arrive in 2025, will serve as goodwill ambassadors and are expected to be a major draw for visitors to Thai zoos. The Ministry is currently preparing suitable enclosures for the pandas in accordance with Chinese standards.



This news comes after Thailand returned the remains of its previous panda pair, Chung Chung and Lin Hui, to China in January.

In a separate development, Thailand will host a rare exhibition of the Buddha’s tooth relic from Beijing.

The relic will be displayed at Sanam Luang from December 4, 2024, to February 14, 2025, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Thai King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 28th July 2024. (TNA)
