BANGKOK, 14 August 2011 – Thais of Chinese descent celebrate Hungry Ghost Festival throughout the country on Sunday to remember their ancestors and pay respect to those who had passed.
At the Tiger God Shrine in Bangkok, people flocked to pay respect to the shrine and wished for good luck.
Chinese descendants in Yaowarat, the China Town, as well as various other locations throughout the country offered food in front of their houses and shops in the morning.
The Chinese Ghost Festival is an annual traditional Chinese festival widely celebrated by Chinese descendants worldwide. The day falls on the 15th day of the 7th month of the Chinese calendar. Common observances include food offerings to monks and the departed, burning of paper and joss sticks, as well as chanting of specific texts.
