BANGKOK, 10 January 2014 Thammasat University and Chulalongkorn University have become the latest educational institutions to close down during the Bangkok rally.
Thammasat University yesterday announced that the occupation of parts of Bangkok by the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) will severely affect staff members’ commuting to and from university campuses. A large number of faculty members and students generally have to travel far to reach both of Thammasat’s two campuses.
The university elaborated that the demonstration may also erupt in violence. As part of the university’s precautionary measures, both campuses at Tha Prachan and Rangsit will be closed from January 13-15.
Chulalongkorn also made known that all classes and administrative units will be closed during those dates.
Altogether, 9 major vocational schools and 158 schools in 13 districts will be affected by the planned siege on Monday.
