BANGKOK, Thailand – Chulalongkorn University has collaborated with the World Economic Forum to publish the “Future of Jobs 2025” report. The study examines projected labor market transformations between 2025 and 2030.
The report highlights strategies to prepare Thailand’s workforce with advanced artificial intelligence (AI) skills and instinctual intelligence to navigate future challenges.
The report is based on data from 1,000 companies representing 14 million employees across 22 industries in 55 countries. It forecasts the creation of 170 million new jobs driven by technological and environmental advancements, alongside the loss of 92 million jobs due to automation and economic shifts. This results in a net employment growth of 7%, adding 78 million jobs globally.
Key factors influencing the labor market include technological innovations like AI, robotics, and energy systems, which are reshaping required skills. Environmental changes are also driving demand for roles in climate change mitigation and renewable energy. Economic volatility, demographic shifts, and global economic disparities further complicate labor market dynamics.
By 2030, two out of every five skills are expected to change. In Thailand, critical skills will include AI, big data proficiency, analytical thinking, creativity, and network and data security expertise. Globally, the emphasis will be on technological literacy, creative thinking, and advanced technical skills.
The report outlines five strategies for Thailand to adapt. These include enhancing workforce skills, recruiting talent aligned with emerging demands, implementing automation, redefining roles to create value, and leveraging advanced technologies for innovation and competitiveness.
Chulalongkorn University is advancing its vision of becoming “The University of AI.” The institution aims to develop individuals who combine expertise in AI with instinctual intelligence, promoting both intellectual and ethical use of technology for societal benefit. (NNT)
