Loei – Citizens across the Thailand planted trees in observance of National Arbor Day on Tuesday.
In Loei province, Governor Chaiwat Chuenkosum took part in a tree planting activity at Wat Srisuthawas, planting Yellow Star, Pride of India, Thai crape myrtle and Yellow Elder trees totaling 966 saplings. He also oversaw the hand out of 1,034 saplings to civil servants and members of the public so that they may plant them at their homes. Altogether 2,000 saplings were planted on the occasion.
Residents of Pong Nam Ron district in Chantaburi province joined together for the “Pracharat Planting for the Nation” campaign, planting over 2,000 trees of various species, including mahogany and Thai rosewood, across a 1.6 hectare plot.
In the North, more than 1,000 volunteers observed Arbor Day at the Doi Inthanon Wildlife Sanctuary. They planted .48 hectares of trees to reinvigorate the area’s ecosystem.
On January 31, 1989 the Cabinet mandated that National Arbor Day be observed alongside Visakha Bucha Day each year to increase the country’s green spaces.
