BANGKOK, Sept 12 – Bangkok’s Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) has prepared water purification chemicals and changed its treatment system to manage floodwaters coming from the North.
Chaowarin Kingkaew, MWA deputy governor in charge of water source and water quality, said that northern run-off is moving into the central region and water drainage downstream at the Chao Phraya Dam is currently about 1,800 cubic metres per minute to prevent flooding.
The MWA is monitoring the flooding and will set up an ad hoc centre to prevent flood impacts on tapwater production for Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakarn if drainage at the spillway of the Chao Phraya Dam reaches 3,500 cubic metres per minute.
Inspection of Chao Phraya River water at Nakhon Sawan found more turbidity while its quality is normal for water in the rainy season.
The agency has prepared compounds of poly aluminum chloride for precipitating suspended water-borne matter and chlorine for killing germs and adjusting to production system to condition floodwaters.
The earthern and concrete embankments of Klong Prapa have been reinforced and heightened to a level higher than last year’s flood level.
