BANGKOK, 17 Oct 2013 (NNT) – The Education Ministry has asserted that traditional Thai dance classes will not be removed from the school curriculum.
According to Education Minister Chaturon Chaisang, not once has he thought about removing the traditional Thai dance class from the school curriculum. He, however, said the ministry was keen to divide several classes into 6 categories, down from 8, adding that the Thai dance class will be included in the Arts and Humanity category.
As for elementary school, the minister said the class will be mandatory for all students, but non-compulsory for secondary and high school students, who can take it as an elective subject.
Minister Chaturon said a public hearing will be held prior to the implementation, assuring that curriculum changes are necessary and beneficial to the Thai education system.
