BUNG KAN, 9 October 2013 – While the downpours over the upper part of the southern region and the eastern region are forecast to reduce in intensity, the Meteorological Department is cautioning people in Ranong, Phang-nga and Phuket to brace for heavy raining.
The weather bureau on Tuesday explained that the intense low pressure cell over the upper parts of the Andaman region has intensified, resulting in heavier raining in the western side of the southern region. Ranong, Phang-nga and Phuket could experience heavy rain.
In the meantime, the temperature in the North and Northeast has dropped further, spurring winter gear shopping by locals and tourists there.
In Bung Kan province, located at the northern tip of the Northeast, the cold air mass from China triggered a temperature drop, which in turn prompted the locals to increase their efforts to exercise to stay fit during the cold.
In Amnat Charoen province, teachers were making school children add an exercise session to their morning pre-class routine to combat the cold, after numerous children had come down with flu during the critical weeks of examinations. In Chanuman district, large numbers of Laotian tourists were shopping for winter gears such as jackets, blankets and scarves, contributing to an increase in border trade activity.
