BANGKOK, Thailand – Pichai Naripthaphan, Minister of Commerce, announced urgent measures to address the rising cost of goods in Thailand and tighten control over the influx of Chinese imports, Sept 6. He stated that his first priority will be to review product costs and work with businesses to reduce prices to ease the burden on the public.
Regarding Chinese imports, Pichai acknowledged the current challenges and emphasized that existing measures will be reassessed. If the current regulations prove ineffective, additional measures will be introduced to address the issue.
Pichai also highlighted the importance of accelerating free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with other countries, noting that more FTAs could lead to increased foreign investment in Thailand. He emphasized the growth potential in industries like printed circuit boards (PCBs), which are vital components in electronics manufacturing.
The electronics sector, particularly PCB manufacturing, attracted over 150 billion baht in investment last year. With proper promotion, this figure could increase to over a trillion baht, contributing to Thailand’s economic transformation. The new investments could create high-paying jobs, with salaries for employees in the sector reaching 40,000 baht per month, and engineers earning upwards of 100,000 baht.
These initiatives aim to modernize Thailand’s export structure and improve the livelihoods of Thai workers. (TNA)
