Nonthaburi – The Ministry of Commerce’s Permanent-Secretary, Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, has revealed the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) meeting between the U.S. and Thailand, held last week in Washington D.C., has yielded a positive outcome.
She said Thailand called on the U.S. to waive an increase in the tax rate for steel and aluminum from Thailand as the kingdom only has a small market share in the U.S.
Meanwhile, progress was made in the intellectual property and labor protection plans which included the suppression of counterfeit products, the legislation, and the implementation of related laws, and a request that the U.S. consider extending the GSP benefits for Thailand, and not to categorize Thailand as a country on a review list.
Thai officials discussed with the U.S. delegates the acceleration of health and quality inspection of pomelos from Thailand to enable the fruit’s export to the U.S., and the authorization of Thai agencies such as the Department of Rice and the Department Of Agriculture to be able to inspect and issue certificates for organic products from the U.S.
