Four Chinese nationals receive suspended jail terms for taking documents from the collapsed SAO building.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The North Bangkok District Court has sentenced four Chinese nationals to two months in prison and a 6,000-baht fine each for unlawfully retrieving documents from the collapsed Office of the State Audit Office (SAO) building. However, the court suspended their prison sentences for one year.

The case arose after the four individuals—Jiang Xiangming, Wen Bo Nan, Xiao Wei Liu, and Yeh Jin—were found removing 32 files from the disaster site without authorization following the building’s collapse. The documents included construction-related files, contractor agreements, and engineering reports.

Authorities also conducted an investigation at a suspected office-residence linked to the Chinese construction company involved. The location was found not to be officially registered, and a Chinese woman residing there failed to report her accommodation under Section 38 of the Immigration Act, leading to a fine for the property owner.

The court ruled that the defendants violated the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act, imposing a reduced sentence of one month in jail and a 3,000-baht fine each, due to their confession and cooperation. Since they had no prior criminal records, their sentences were suspended for one year. (TNA)
