On the occasion of Thailand’s National Mangrove Forest Day, Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) reaffirms its commitment to biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and restoration by continuing its collaborative efforts to enhance mangrove forests across Thailand. Recognizing the significance of mangroves in carbon sequestration and ensuring food security, CP Foods pledges to further its partnerships with governmental agencies, local communities, and civil society to foster environmental and societal well-being.
Since initiating the “CP Foods Grow-Share-Protect Mangrove Forest Project” in 2014, the company has successfully facilitated the preservation, restoration, and planting of over 1.6 million trees, covering more than 4,000 rai (approximately 640 hectares) across coastal areas in Rayong, Samut Sakhon, Chumphon, Songkhla, and Phang Nga provinces.
Looking ahead, CP Foods aims to expand its conservation efforts to include additional mangrove sites in Bang Ya Phraek Subdistrict in Samut Sakhon Province, Pak Nam Prasae Subdistrict in Rayong Province, and Tha Phrik Subdistrict in Trat Province. These efforts are in alignment with Thailand’s national strategy to enhance mangrove areas and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically those related to Climate Action, Life Below Water, and Partnerships for the Goals.
The impact of the mangrove forest project extends beyond environmental restoration. It also promotes economic and social development by integrating local communities into sustainable tourism and creating job opportunities. Noteworthy community tourism initiatives have been launched in Pak Nam Prasae in Rayong, Baan Thammachat Lang in Trat, and Bang Ya Phraek in Samut Sakhon, illustrating the project’s comprehensive benefits.
Moreover, CP Foods is dedicated to cultivating environmental responsibility among the youth through educational programs such as the “CPF Green Sea We Share Project”, which encourages student participation in conservation activities, and nurtures a future generation of eco-conscious leaders.
On this National Mangrove Forest Day, CP Foods stands with Thai government’s call for increased private sector engagement and community participation in conservation initiatives, including waste management to reduce marine debris and enhance community cohesion for sustainable development. CP Foods remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the protection and sustainable management of Thailand’s mangrove ecosystems for future generations. (NNT)
