Damage inspected after quake

CHIANG RAI, 7 May 2014  –The Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning has been to inspect the damage after the earthquake at Phan District, Chiang Rai Province. 

Mr.Monthon Sudprasert, Director General of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning said the number of buildings and structures damaged in the earthquake was extensive. The region of Chiang Rai itself has sustained heavy damage especially to houses, while Wat Phra That Doi Suthep’s peak at Chiang Mai, and Phayao were not badly affected.

Mr.Monthon also spoke about building maintenance, and said that the department is surveying the structural soundness of buildings erected before 2007 and will restore buildings with obvious defects.

The Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning is also offering safety advice books to people in areas at risk, or people can access the information at www.dpt.go.th.
