BANGKOK, 14 April 2015, (NNT)

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has indicated that eating yogurt does not

help reduce the level of alcohol in blood stream.

Deputy Director-General of DDC Dr. Panumard Yarnwaidsaku made a statement

yesterday warning potential drunk drivers not to believe such a claim.

Concerns have been raised after rumors surfaced in the social media, leading to the

misconception that consuming yogurt would reduce the alcohol level in blood stream

and, therefore, the chance of being detected by breath analyzer, Dr. Panumard said.

According to him, there have been no scientific proofs to back up the claim, insisting

that yogurt does not have such a property, and urging members of the social media to

spread correct information. The Deputy Director-General also asked netizens to check

out facts before sharing any piece of information.

In the past eleven days, 398 out of 1,365 people stopped for inspection in 36

provinces have been arrested for drunk driving.

165 have also been arrested for violating alcohol promotion codes; 66 for violating

the law banning giving away alcohol as part of their sale promotions; 33 for selling

alcohol in restricted areas; 8 for selling alcoholic beverages to minors and 61 for

drinking in public places, according to Dr. Panumard.
