BANGKOK, 18 November 2013, The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) plans to install solar rooftops at 400 vocational colleges and 400 hospitals nationwide next year.
The project will cost slightly over 2 million baht for the installation at each site. However, each college will be able to produce 40 kilowatts of electricity which are 20 kw higher than the capacity of each hospital. The department hopes that the project will support the usage of alternative energy and raise students’ awareness on energy conservation. It enables vocational students to familiarize themselves with solar panels and learn how to maintain the panels through actual equipments.
Pramoul Chanpong, DEDE Director General also encourages those participating colleges to include solar rooftops installation as part of their curricula to raise the number of graduates in the field which is still in great need.
