PATTANI, 28 May 2014 – Deep South authorities indicate the curfew imposed since last Thursday has not in any way interfered with religious affairs of Muslims in the southern border provinces.

Colonel Pramot Phrom-in, the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 Forward Command spokesperson, said residents of the southern border provinces have stringently complied with the curfew. The curfew has not negatively affected people’s conducts of religious duties, while security officials are looking to exercise the power vested under martial law against the armed insurgents.

Police Major General Sakhon Thongmuni, deputy commissioner of the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Center, said 67 people were killed and 184 others injured from violent incidents in the Deep South between March 31 until Tuesday May 26; altogether there were 94 incidents. According to him, authorities now have enough evidence to issue arrest warrants for the perpetrators of Saturday’s blasts in Pattani.
