BANGKOK, 11 June 2015 – Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will not use violence against those with different political views.
Army Chief General Udomdej, in his capacity as Defense Minister, said he has not received reports of any political movements. He added that Thai people have a good understanding of the NCPO and its functions in government.
However, he admitted that there are several groups that disagree with the current government, particularly college students. General Udomdej said they have not been expressing their viewpoints creatively.
He has called on parents and teachers to remind them that their actions can damage the country’s reputation. The Defense Minister insisted that the authorities do not wish to use violence to maintain law and order. They would rather make them understand the current situation.
