BANGKOK, 21 January 2013 Defense Minister ACM Sukumpol Suwanatat is unworried about the current protest against Cambodia, in relation to the Preah Vihear dispute, while calling on all sides to wait for the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s verdict on the case.

The minister said on Monday that while the protest by a group called “Khon Thai Hua Jai Rak Chart” was the exercise of the right to freedom of expression, their movement must be based on reasons.

He confirmed that the government will listen to the protesters and that the officers stationed at the disputed border area do have clear understanding about the situation.

ACM Sukumpol stated he was not concerned that the protest would ignite another conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.

He said that Thai military officers have been doing their best around the Preah Vihear area as it is their duty to follow the laws and take proper actions after the ICJ issued the injunction. The Defense Minister added that the two countries should together find solutions to the dispute through bilateral talks.
