BANGKOK, 22 December 2013, Democrat Party has officially concluded that the party voted not to participate in the upcoming general election on February 2, 2014 despite the Prime Minister’s plea for all parties to join the election and organize Thailand Reform Council.
The party took 30 minutes to discuss and vote on whether or not to join the election. Mr. Sansern Samalapa, former MP for Bangkok disclosed that the party had come to a conclusion that it would not be a part of this election even though Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawattra came out earlier and proposed to set up a Thailand Reform Council.
In the past, Democrat Party has never been worried about winning or losing and had always participated in the election even if it knew that the chance of winning is slim. However, at this time the party is no longer concerned about the election because even if there is one the party has decided not to join.
The party would like to be a part of people’s tool to be used in reforming the country instead.
