BANGKOK – The Department of Employment (DOE) has established committees to study the pros and cons of the labour import scheme, says DOE chief.
The DOE Director-General Arrug Phrommanee has revealed that the department has established two committees tasked with the feasibility study in amending the employment seeking and employment seekers protection law, and in legislating the immigrant employment law to further enhance the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labour import with other countries.
He said Thailand’s current processes of labour import are sluggish and require renovation, extended to the importing process, legal protection, and employee’s benefits.
The DOE is now set to invite the delegation from the International Labour Organization (ILO) as an adviser on the renovation of immigrant workers protection scheme, aiming to increase the responsibility from the importing employment agencies on labour protection, and guarantee working conditions that comply to their related contracts.
The DOE director-general ensured that the department will establish a sustainable solution on migrant employment, in compliance with domestic demands.
